Our Mission
ReCoWaMa contributes to value creation and positive development in the waste management sector in Troms and Finnmark by enhancing research collaboration between waste management firms and research institutions.
ReCoWaMa generates new research-based and industry relevant knowledge on Arctic waste management with focus on upgrading skills and competences, networking, international benchmarking, and increased collaboration between waste management firms and the waste management research sector.
The project promotes public-private partnerships and increased national and international cooperation including EU projects to address several knowledge needs such as:
- Better understanding the dynamics between global production networks and regional pre-conditions
- Strongly enhancing R&D and innovation in the regional waste management sector
- Increasing industry networks
- Upgrading competence and increased regional cooperation

Waste management in North Norway: Coping with Arctic conditions
North Norway is categorized as sparsely populated area with long distances and harsh climatic conditions. The waste management sector attempts to reaching a scale that enables critical mass of waste to be handled, together with tackling technology challenges and to continuously improve sustainability.
Here, the waste management actors in Troms and Finnmark such as Remiks
AS in Tromsø have taken steps towards cooperation. An important
milestone is the North Norway Waste Management cluster initiative.
